Gardner-Webb Takes Series Against Presbyterian In Decisive Game Three

Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – The Runnin' Bulldogs complemented their defense with late offense to close out the Blue Hose Saturday from Clinton.

The series finale had a defensive start, with neither team scoring for the first four innings.

Annicka McLaughlin got things started, however, in the top of the fifth. The freshman infielder hit a triple to left field, and Adrienne Visintine hit a single to put GWU on the board.

Bridgette Strobl led off the sixth and was hit by a pitch. Kasey Fava reached on an error and put runners on first and second. McLaughlin followed with a timely single to centerfield to score Strobl. PC committed another error and Fava scored to make it 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Up three runs, Alyssa Bonilla lead off the seventh with a walk. Presbyterian changed pitchers and Meredith Wayland entered the game to pinch run for Bonilla. Abbey Goodrum then doubled to centerfield and scored Wayland, making it 4-0. With two outs, facing a full count, Alexa Key hit an RBI-single and pushed the 'dogs' lead to 5. Fava then walked and Key advanced to second. McLaughlin came through again, singling down the right field line and added one more run.

The Blue Hose attempted to rally, scoring two runs in the final inning, but it was not enough as Gardner-Webb took the rubber match 6-2.

"Our pitching and defense was phenomenal," said head coach Bailey Wigness. "Our slappers did a good job of applying pressure and we got timely hits to score runs."

The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled eight hits in game three. Annicka McLaughlin led with a triple, two singles, and two RBIs. Abbey Goodrum hit two doubles and had one RBI. Adrienne Visintine, Alexa Key, and Alyssa Bonilla registered a hit each as well. Visintine, and Key earned the additional RBIs.

The lefthander, Kalyn Kyle, pitched another complete game, striking out four batters in her second win of the series.

Gardner-Webb will close out the regular season at home. The Runnin' Bulldogs will host Radford on Friday at 4:00 P.M. and wrap up the series on Senior Day, Saturday.
