
Victor Putter Receives Big South's Prestigious Christenberry Award For Academic Excellence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Wednesday that Gardner-Webb men's tennis player Victor Putter has been awarded the conference's prestigious George A. Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence. The award is given to the male and female student-athlete who attain the highest GPA during their undergraduate collegiate careers.
Putter, who majored in mathematics at Gardner-Webb, completed his undergraduate with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Big South member institutions nominate one male and one female undergraduate student-athlete for the annual Christenberry Award. The honor is named for George A. Christenberry, the former President of Augusta College (now Augusta University) and one of the founders of the Big South Conference. A member of the Big South Hall of Fame, Christenberry served as the league's first President from 1983-86.
Putter helped the 'dogs win a share of the Big South Regular Season Championship and runner-up in the conference tournament.
Individually, Putter earned Scholar Athlete of the Year honors by the Big South, as well as being tabbed Second Team All-Conference for doubles and All-Academic
2023 marked his third year as a member of the All-Academic team. He was honored as Big South Player of the Week twice and finished his career 9-3 in the conference in doubles. In singles, he won 27 matches and he recently put GWU in its first-ever finals appearance this past April.
