LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball program earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the first time since 2018, announced on Thursday, July 13.
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. A total of 1,332 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. Of those schools, Gardner-Webb was one of five Big South schools to obtain the honor.
The Runnin' Bulldogs did so with a team cumulative GPA of 3.72 for the 2022-23 school year. Then squad was led by
Delaney McCullough, who earned Big South All-Academic honors after posting a 3.87 GPA while pursuing a degree in biology.
It is the first time the Runnin' Bulldogs have earned the honor since 2018, and is the twelfth time that Gardner-Webb has earned the accolade.
The Gardner-Webb volleyball program is coming off their most successful season in the Big South conference, winning a record seven conference contests and having four players earn All-Conference accolades.
