Constantino Promoted to Assistant A.D. for Broadcasting & Strategic Communication

Enters 4th season at Gardner-Webb, continues as "The Voice of the Runnin' Bulldogs"

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Andrew T. Goodrich has promoted Phil Constantino to Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcasting & Strategic Communication, the Department of Athletics announced on Thursday. Constantino enters his fourth season at Gardner-Webb and will continue to serve as "The Voice of the Runnin' Bulldogs."

"Phil is an exceptionally talented and driven person who will no doubt help elevate all aspects of our marketing, communications, and broadcasting efforts for the coming years," said Goodrich. "He will be a key leader as we continue to develop a culture of competitive excellence with all that we do here at Gardner-Webb."

Since joining Gardner-Webb in November of 2020, Constantino has served as the department's lead play-by-play announcer while managing the day-to-day operations of its radio and television broadcasts. During his three seasons in Boiling Springs, Constantino oversaw the creation of the Runnin' Bulldogs Sports Network, the return of men's basketball radio broadcasts, the introduction of women's basketball radio broadcasts, and overall increased quality and quantity of television broadcasts on ESPN+, among other notable achievements.

In 2022-2023, the Department of Athletics expanded its live coverage by producing a school-record 153 total broadcasts, including 95 television broadcasts on ESPN+, also a school record.

In his new position, Constantino will continue as the department's primary play-by-play voice and manage the broadcasting operation, while also overseeing the entire athletic communications department.

"I'm proud of the broadcasting department we've built over the last three years," said Constantino. "And I'm more excited than ever to bring that energy and pursuit of greatness to our entire athletic communications department! Thank you to Dr. Goodrich and Dr. Downs for entrusting me with this opportunity. There's never been a better time to be a 'Dawg!"

Constantino has brought a wealth of major national and regional network experience to the airwaves of Boiling Springs. In 2022, he called the Sweet 16 & Elite 8 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on national radio for Westwood One Sports. Other recent career stops include on-air stints with Learfield, the Charlotte Hornets, ESPN Charlotte, and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), among other marquee assignments, including several Big South Conference Championships on radio and television.

Constantino was hired from Queens University of Charlotte, where he spent five seasons (2015-2020) as the play-by-play "Voice of the Royals" and his final three seasons as the school's Director of Broadcasting & Multimedia and an Assistant Sports Information Director. At Queens, Constantino built the Queens Sports Network, the university's first live-broadcasting platform, and served as the primary media contact for the Royals' nationally-ranked men's basketball team.

Prior to Queens, Constantino spent the summer of 2016 with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA, Philadelphia Phillies) and 2017 with the then-Kannapolis Intimidators (A, Chicago White Sox).

Constantino completed his master's in communication at Queens in 2020. He graduated from Penn State University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism.
