Neza Siftar picked up a fourth-place finish as the Runnin' Bulldogs finished ninth at the Elon Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Siftar led after the opening round, shooting a blistering four-under, 67. The Ljubljana, Slovenia native shot a three-over, 74 in the second round and a two-over, 73 in the final round, finishing with a one-over, 214 three-round score. Siftar finished just three strokes behind the individual winner, Macy Johnson of Radford.
As a team, the 'Dawgs shot a 46-over, 898 three-round score, finishing ninth overall. GWU finished three strokes ahead of App State, while also finishing above Big South rivals Longwood, Presbyterian, and Winthrop.
Julia Buchgeher finished tied for 45th in her collegiate debut, shooting a 14-over, 227 three-round score. Buchgeher shot a one-over, 73 in the first round, before tallying a 79 and a 75 in the final two rounds.
Anna Snoblova also made her college debut at the Elon Invitational, finishing tied for 58th with a 19-over, 232 three-round score. Snoblova carded an 82 in the first round, but recovered nicely with a pair of 75s in the final two rounds.
Georgia Barr and
Katelyn Griggs both tied for 62nd at Elon, as both golfers carded 21-over, 234 three-round scores. Barr shot a 79 in the first round, a 75 in the second round, and an 80 in the final round. Griggs played as an individual this week, shooting an 81 in the first round, before shooting a 75 in the second round and a 78 in the third round.
Ashley Huffman finished tied for 64th with a 22-over, 235 three-round score in her first tournament as a Runnin' Bulldog. Huffman did record the first hole-in-one of the season for Gardner-Webb in the first round on the fourth hole at the Alamance Country Club. She shot a pair of 76s in the first two rounds before carding an 83 in the final round.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the links for the UNCG Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C. First round play begins on Monday, Oct. 9.
