Gardner Webb men’s swimming battles ASUN Power Queens University of Charlotte and No.22 ranked Georgia Tech in Saturday’s Tri Meet

Runnin’ Bulldogs swam in front of capacity crowd at Queens Levine Aquatic Center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In front of a Saturday morning capacity crowd at the Levine Aquatic Center on the campus of Queens University of Charlotte, the Gardner-Webb men's swimming team squared off in a Tri-Meet against two formidable foes as the Runnin' Bulldogs swam against ASUN power Queens and nationally ranked Georgia Tech of the ACC which is No. 22 in the December CSCAA Division I Top 25 Poll.  

Against Queens, Gardner-Webb was outscored 201.00-60.00 by the host Royals while the No.22 ranked Yellow Jackets outscored the 'Dawgs 217.00-44.00.
There were 14 total events in the men's Tri-Meet which opened with the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The 'Runner Bulldogs quartet of senior Landon Clark, sophomore Justin Bender, junior John Cass and freshman Jacob Jenson finished in fourth place with a time of 1:32.98. Gardner-Webb's foursome of senior Bryan Dunne, freshman Daniel Bennett, senior Kaiden Gonser and junior Zuri Ramsey followed in 1:37.65 to take fifth place. Georgia Tech won the event in 1:29.13.  

Senior Garrett Despres had a strong showing in the 1000 Yard Freestyle for the 'Dawgs as he placed third in 9:46.14.

Other bright spots in the pool for Gardner-Webb on Saturday morning, Jensen (20.89) was fifth in the 12-man field in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Bennett (2:09.20) was seventh in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Cass finished seventh in the 100 Yard Butterfly while freshman Luke Weber (4:46.90) was seventh in the 500 Yard Freestyle.

Up Next: The Runnin' Bulldog will get back in the water on Saturday February 3rd as Davidson visits the Bost Swimming Pool for Senior Day at 11:00 AM.
