Gardner-Webb Track & Field Turn in Record-Setting Performances at Sunday's JDL Flat Is Fast Invitational

Nathan Cremin and Jessica Perriello set school marks in the men's and women's 600 meters

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It was a record setting day for several members of the Gardner-Webb University indoor track and field squad on Sunday as the Runnin' Bulldogs opened the 2024 portion of their schedule competing at the 13-team JDL Flat Is Fast Invitational held inside the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.

Among the many highlights on the day were two school record-setting performances in the men's and women's 600 meters as freshman Nathan Cremin (1:23.05) and junior Jessica Perriello (1:40.56) paced their respective fields to capture the event.

In addition to Perriello's record-setting performance, the 'Dawgs received strong showings in the 600m from junior's Isabela Castillo (1:41.34) and Teryn Bour (1:43.41) who finished in second and third place respectively.

Gardner-Webb junior Jacoby Johnson had an outstanding day as he captured both the men's shot put (50' 6") and weight throw (51' 10"). Sophomore Quentin Peterson followed Johnson in second place in the shot put (47' 9.25") and the weight throw (49' 1").

The Runnin' Bulldogs also received a first-place finish from senior Alhyia Eugene in the women's high jump as she cleared 5' 4.25".
Freshman Isa Van Sintemaatensdijk placed third in the high jump (5 '2.25") and also took third place in the long jump (17-00.50) for the 'Dawgs. Van Sintemaatensdijk finished behind sophomore teammate Jada Pittman who finished second in the long jump clearing 18-01.50.

Pittman (7.83) also placed third in the 60m dash which is No.4 all-time in the Gardner-Webb record books.

In the men's high jump Gardner-Webb freshman Johnny Timpson (6' 6") finished in second place for the 'Dawgs. Timpson's performance is third best on the all-time high jump list in the history of the Gardner-Webb program.
 
In addition to Timpson, junior Ryan Morita finished in second place in the 1000 meters for the 'Dawgs in 2:36.88.
 
In the women's 400 meters the Runnin' Bulldogs received another strong performance as junior Alena Ivanov (1:00.19) finished in second place and Deborah Marlow (1:00.21) placed third.
 
The Gardner-Webb 4X400 meter relay team of Ivanov, Traci Cross, Anna Spencer and Marlow finished in second place on Sunday in 4:06.74.
 
Sophomore TJ Peoples rounds out the list of impressive performances for the Runnin' Bulldogs as he placed third (8.49) in the 60m hurdles.
 
"This is our second meet (of the season) and this group keeps getting better and better," said Gardner-Webb coach Greg Thiel. "We are excited to see how the rest of the season will play out."
 
Up Next – Gardner-Webb will compete at the VMI Invitation hosted by the Virginia Military Academy in Lexington, Va next weekend (Friday January 26th & Saturday January 27th).
