RICHMOND, Va. – The Gardner-Webb University wrestling squad fell in a close match against the University of Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 6 by a final team score of 22-19. The Runnin' Bulldogs took five of the 10 matches including the first four in a row of competition.
 
Drew West, T.K. Davis, Todd Carter, and Zach Price bested their opponents from UVA to open the match with freshman Davis pinning No. 28 Marlon Yarbrough at 1:19. Gardner-Webb led 15-0 in team scoring. The Cavaliers battled back in the higher weight classes to earn five wins of the own and take a late lead in team scoring. Despite Jha'Quan Anderson earning a victory in the 184 weight class 10-1, Virginia was able to hang on for the team win.
 
Gardner-Webb will return to the mat for the Davidson Duals on Jan. 10 where they will take on Cleveland State University and Lock Haven University.
