Volleyball Drops Saturday Big South Contest at Presbyterian

Box Score CLINTON, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb University volleyball team fell 3-0 in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon, losing on the road to Presbyterian

In a game that came down to three close sets, it was the host Presbyterian who managed to find the finish line, defeating the Runnin' Bulldogs by just a combined seven points in the final tally.

Gardner-Webb started strong, leading halfway through the opening set. Junior outside hitter Isabella Raciunas continued a strong weekend after last night's win at Charleston Southern, notching a first set kill to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a 15-14 lead. Later on, a 5-1 run also punctuated by Raciunas, nearly got GWU to the finish line with a 22-20 lead. The Blue Hose rallied however, scoring the last three points to win 26-24.and take the lead in the match 1-0

The Runnin' Bulldogs led again in the second, this time jumping in front early with a 7-2 lead. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Cayton White eventually connected on one of her 13 kills for the afternoon, another Gardner-Webb player with a solid individual weekend, giving GWU a 15-10 lead as they looked to close in on a 1-1 tie. As with the story in the first though, Presbyterian rallied. The Blue Hose grabbed four of the last six points, winning 25-23 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third, Presbyterian would pull in front early, then held off a late surge by the Runnin' Bulldogs. 7-2 Presbyterian became 18-17 in favor of Gardner-Webb, with graduate middle Alivia Rew giving the 'Dawgs a late lead after playing from behind most of the frame. GWU looked to be on towards a win after two more kills in quick order by White, but as with the first two sets, Presbyterian closed strong. The Blue Hose ended the match with back to back points, winning 25-22 and the match 3-0.

Next up, Gardner-Webb Volleyball begins a lengthy home stand. The Runnin' Bulldogs are home for five straight Big South games, starting with High Point on October 18th at 6 p.m.
