BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head coach
Mike Griffith of the Gardner- Webb men's tennis team has announced the addition of four athletes to the 2024-25 roster.
Billy Mac Clement - Rutherfordton N.C.
Clement was two-time conference and regional High School Champion and was named R-S Central Athlete of the year in 2024. He finished high school with a 4.11 grade point average and looks to make an immediate impact to the team.
Quote from coach Griffith, " Billy Mac will be a force for us in doubles in year one. HE has great hands and has improved a ton since arriving on campus in August."
Alexandre Bergeron - Montreal, Canada
Bergeron is a lefty from same city as current players
Numa Lemieux-Monette and
Alex Lepine and will keep the Montreal connection going. He was one of the top players coming out of Canada in 2024 and has already won the Davidson Tournament in September while beating current GWU player and all conference player
Kim Niethammer.
Quote from coach Griffith," He doesn't miss and plays with passion while never being tight. He will be fantastic."
Kaua Cressoni - Sao Paulo Brazil (arrives January 2025).
Cressoni won the Banana Bowl as a junior in singles and doubles and was a highly-ranked junior and world junior player.
Quote from coach Griffith, " Kaua was able to visit in October and he fit in very nicely with our team. He is a tall player with great hands and will look to help us immediately in doubles for the spring."
Boyd Scheiber - New South Wales Australia (arrives January 2025)
Scheiber will bring a big offensive game to GWU. He knows one of our current players,
Jurie Terblanche and his agent played against one of our all-time great players in year's past, Max Scholl.
Quote from coach Griffith, "Boyd will thrive in the college tennis atmosphere and he has a huge forehand and will look to attack."
