Men's Tennis Sweeps Inaugural Big South Individual Fall Championships

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The inaugural Big South Fall Tennis Championships concluded on Sunday, October 27 at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, with the championship matches in singles and doubles.
 
Gardner-Webb University men's tennis was well-represented during the three-day event, winning the singles and doubles championships while receiving automatic entry in the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Ga. on Nov. 7-10. Overall, GWU finished the tournament with a record of 17-2
 
Senior Eduardo Dias, the No. 1 seed in the singles competition, captured the crown for the Runnin' Bulldogs after defeating teammate Kim Niethammer in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
 
Dias also teamed up with junior Numa Lemieux-Monette in doubles action, taking down Niethammer and Jurie Terblanche, 8-3.
 
Dias and Lemieux-Monette will represent Gardner-Webb in Rome, Ga. on Nov, 7-10 in the ITA Conference Masters Championship. The draw will consist of 32 singles players and 32 doubles teams from every conference in the country.  
 
"One of our goals this year was to win this event," said head coach Mike Griffith. "We are extremely happy to represent our conference and we hope to make everyone proud."
