Wrestling Competes in George Mason Patriot Open on Sunday

FAIRFAX, VA - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team returned to the mats on Sunday at George Mason after a two week break from competition, taking part in the Patriot Open event
For the Runnin' Bulldogs, Takeo Davis once again proved to be a standout. The redshirt freshman posted perhaps the best individual day for Gardner-Webb, making it all the way to the third place match in the 125 pound class. Davis scored an 18-3 tech fall over Hunter Heflin of Navy to catapult himself into the later rounds of the competition. Davis also defeated Spencer Barnhart of Penn by an 8-5 decision in the Round of 16.
In the 125 pound division, Tyson Lane went on a run to the quarterfinal round. The junior from Brandon, Fla. picked up. a huge result over JB Dragovic of Virginia in the Round of 16 by 18-4 major decision to put himself into position for one of Gardner-Webb's best individual results of the day.
Ty Edwards grabbed one of the first individual wins of his Gardner-Webb career in the 141 pound class. The freshman defeated Tyler Adams of the Naval Academy Prep School by decision with a final tally of 3-1.
Back in the 125 pound division, junior Jeffery Jacome continued a solid individual start to the 2024-25 season. Jacome scored three wins for the day, including a 14-2 major decision over Brady Klinsky of Rider and a 5-3 decision over Abram Cline of Maryland.
Sophomore Drew Pepin picked up a pair of wins on Sunday for the Runnin' Bulldogs. At 157 pounds, Pepin defeated Mekhi Neal of Maryland by fault and Nicholas Romero of Brown by an 8-7 decision.
Senior Andrew Wilson stood out for the Runnin' Bulldogs, scoring two wins at 174 pounds. Wilson took down Lance Ubras of Penn State by 13-8 decision, and followed up by defeating teammate Jackson Potts of Gardner-Webb, also by decision.
Rounding out the day for GWU, junior Josh McCutchen beat Ethan Witherspoon of Virginia, with the result coming by a 4-1 decision.
