Box Score Boiling Springs, N.C.---- After dropping
the doubles point to visiting Wingate Thursday afternoon, the Gardner-Webb men's tennis team went on a roll and won five singles matches to take a 5-2 victory over the defending South Atlantic Conference Champion Bulldogs at the Webb Tennis Center.
It was the home-opener for the Runnin' Bulldogs who improved to 3-0 on the young season. Wingate, who was playing its season-opener falls to 0-1.
In the double's competition, Wingate's Hugo Nossler and Luka Brown knocked of Gardner-Webb's No.1 tandem of
Eduardo Dias and
Johannes Van Wijk, 6-3.
Edis Nokic and Gabriel Constantino won 6-1 at No.2 doubles over the Runnin Bulldogs'
Numa Lemieux-Monette and freshman
Jurie Terblanche.
No.3 doubles match did not finish as Wingate held a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In the singles competition, Gardner-Webb won the top four matches to rally for the win.
Dias took the No.1 singles match (6-1, 6-1) over Constantino.
Alex Lepine took the singles No.2 match 7-6, 6-1 and Lemieux-Monette continued the 'Dawgs dominance in the single competition by taking the No.3 spot 6-1, 6-1.
The match clincher was secured in the No.4 singles spot as
Kim Niethammer prevailed 6-2, 6-0.
-At singles No.5 Wingate's Nossler won the first set 6-3. The Dawgs'
Chrisjan Van Wyk took the second set 6-3 before Nossler prevailed 18-16 in the third set tiebreaker.
The sixth and final singles match was won by Gardner Webb's
John Spring, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 to cap another happy recap for the 'Runnin Bulldogs.

Up Next—Gardner -Webb will be in action next Saturday (2/3) when the "Dawgs visit Belmont-Abby for a match doubleheader. The first match is slated to begin at 10AM and the second around 2:30 PM.
