TROY, Ala. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at the Troy Tournament beating Florida A&M University 10-1, and defeating Indiana University 7-4. The second win of the day is the Gardner-Webb softball's program's third win in history over a power five conference school (North Carolina in 2005, NC State in 2018).
The 'Dawgs got the bats going early tallying five runs in their first frame against the Rattlers with
Kayleigh Nicholson,
Trina Van Dyke, and
Jailyn Tineo all picking up RBI's. Gardner-Webb went on to make it 8-0 in the third inning thanks to great hitting by
Andrea Lyon, Araceli Pasqueira and
Taylor Dreher. Following a FAMU run in the fourth, GWU added to more as Lyon hit a two-run bomb to centerfield. Gardner-Webb took the game in five innings 10-1.
Gardner-Webb's second victory of the day began with the Hoosiers taking a 1-0 lead in the first before the 'Dawgs came Runnin' back in the third taking the lead 3-1 with
Adrienne Visintine and Tineo combining to get three across.
Emily Garcia hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to put GWU up 6-1. Indiana recorded a trio of runs in the same inning cutting into the lead 6-4. Gardner-Webb was able to add one more insurance run in the seventh ultimately defeating IU 7-4. The Runnin' Bulldogs are now 6-2 with Lyon and
Kalyn Kyle sitting with 2-1 records.
