Gardner-Webb Men's & Women's Indoor Track Shines at Big South Championships

Noah Meadows, Quentin Peterson, Teandra Clemons crowned champions in their respective events

BLACKSBURG, VA. – Ask Gardner-Webb University indoor track and field coach Greg Thiel how his squad did at the 2024 Big South Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship.

The Runnin' Bulldogs first-year mentor will tell you, "We rocked this weekend!"

During the two-day (2/23 & 2/24) event held at Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech, Gardner-Webb captured three individual Big South Championships and had several other performers place in the top three in their respective events.

The Dawgs took home the Big South Championship in the men's long jump as senior Noah Meadows (7.09m) finished ahead of Winthrop's Kenneth William Jr (6.97m) and Michael Moody of USC Upstate (6.92m).

Meadows also turned in a Top 10 performance in the Men's 200 Meters as he finished in seventh place with a 22.14.

The second championship for the Gardner-Webb was delivered by sophomore Quentin Peterson with a throw of 17.85m in men's weight throw.

Peterson, who was named to the Big South All-Academic team this weekend, also finished second (17.42m) in the shot put behind High Point's Chris Van Niekerk (18.63m).

The Dawgs also got strong performances in the shot put as Jacoby Johnson was fourth with a personal best 16.22.  

Another Top 10 performers on the men's side for Gardner-Webb was sophomore Mason Jones, who was No.6 with a personal best 3980 in the Heptathlon.

Sophomore Ryan Morita had a personal best of 1:54.92 to take fifth place in the Men's 800 Meters while classmate TJ Peebles turned in his personal best of 8:17 to finish second in the Men's 60m Hurdles.

On the women's side, Gardner-Webb's third Big South Champion was crowned in the women's triple jump as freshman Teandra Clemons won her first Big South indoor title with a jump of 11.86m.

Clemons also had a personal best fifth-place performance in the women's long jump (5.59m) and the high jump (1.58m) for the Dawgs.

Senior Alyiah Eugene turned in a personal best 11.14 to finish fifth in the triple jump for Gardner-Webb.

Freshman Anna Spencer -who holds the school record in the women's 300-meter dash, also shined for the Runnin 'Bulldogs this weekend as she finished second in the 60-meter dash (7.64) to Destiny Wallace of Charleston Southern (7.63).

Spencer (24.79) also placed third in the women's 200-meters-dash.

Junior Jessica Perriello finished seventh in the women's 800-meter dash with a personal best of 2:17.40 while classmate Alena Ivanov, who was named to the Big South's All-Academic team, was fifth in the women's 400-meter dash with a 58.07.

Rounding out the highlights for the Runnin' Bulldogs as the Big South Championships was freshman Isa vanSintemaartensdijk, who placed third in the women's collegiate pentathlon (Outdoor) with a personal best 3330.
