Box Score Boiling Springs, N.C. – Despite being shorthanded
, the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team returned to the Webb Tennis Center Monday morning and defeated visiting Quinnipiac, 6-1.
Gardner-Webb improved to 3-6 while Quinnipiac, which competes in the Metro Atlantic Conference, fell to 4-7.
Starting the morning in the double's competition, graduate senior
Courtney Fyvie (Durbam, South Africa) and
Emilia Roslund (Lund, Sweeden) began the day with a win (6-1) on Court No.1 to Anagha Shankar and Jordan Bradley.
The Runnin' Bulldogs No.2 doubles team of senior
Katie Watts (Haslet, Texas) and freshman
Milica Prokic (Belgrade, Serbia) prevailed 6-1 to the Bobcats Vera Sekerina and Dominique Yeo.
Gardner-Webb led 1-0 heading into the singles competition where the Runnin' Bulldogs got on a roll despite knowing they would have to default at the No.6 singles.
Roslund started things rolling for the Dawgs on Court No.1 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Shankar.
On Court No.2. Poulin (6-3, 6-1) prevailed over Sekerina.
Watts clinched the Runnin' Bulldogs third match of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Caitlin Flower.
Freshman
Milica Prokic (Belgrade, Serbia) (6-1, 6-4) defeated Ella Lewis on Court No.5 while Fyvie wrapped up a gritty singles performance for the Dawgs with a three-set win on Court No.3 over Caroline Schulson 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.

Jim Corn. "I am so proud of the effort. Our energy level stayed high throughout the entire match today. Everyone was focused and ready to play knowing we would default at No. 6 singles and be down 1-0 to start the match."
Up Next — Gardner-Webb will be in action again on Thursday (3/14) when the Runnin' Bulldogs visit Longwood for a Big South Conference match in Farmville, Virginia beginning at 1PM. The Runnin' Bulldogs then travel to Durham, N.C. to take on North Carolina Central on Saturday (3/16) at 1PM.
