Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team returned to action after a 12-day layoff and dropped a 5-2 decision to host Campbell on Saturday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
Campbell improved to 7-4 on the season, including a 4-0 mark at home, while GWU dropped to 1-5.
The Runnin' Bulldogs claimed the early lead, with
Courtney Fyvie (Durbam, South Africa) and Alizee Poulin (Beauceville, Quebec, Canada) topping Campbell's Tasmin Hart and Veronika Prospalova 6-3, clinching the doubles point on Court No.3.
Gardner-Webb's No.1 tandem of junior
Emilia Roslund (Lund, Sweden) and sophomore
Emma Shasteen (Floda, Sweeden) opened the match with a 6-0 win over CU's Eeva Ristola and Mialy Ranaivo.
On Court No.2 senior
Katie Watts (Haslet, Texas) and freshman
Milica Prokic (Belgrade, Serbia) fell 6-2 to Campbell's Lena Karlovcan and Mariana Ossa.
Campbell's Karlovcan started singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Watts, knotting the team score at 1-1.
It was the first of five straight for the Camels as Lily Chitambar clinched the dual for CU, topping Fyvie 7-6, 6-2 on Court No.4.
Shasteen lost the No.1 singles match 1-6, 2-6 to Ranaivo.
The lone bright spot for Gardner-Webb in the singles competition was Roslund, who prevailed for the 'Dawgs 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 over Ristola on court No.2.
