BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's basketball fell to Winthrop University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 72-54. Prior to tipoff the program recognized seniors
Ramatoulaye Keita and
Micahla Funderburk for their contributions to the program.
Despite a competitive opening frame, Winthrop took an early lead and more firm control of the game. Harris and
Ashley Hawkins kept the 'Dawgs in the game through much of the second quarter with the 'Dawsg only trailing by 10 at the break. Thanks to buckets off key rebounds from Harris and
Lauren Bailey to open the third, GWU closed the deficit to just five. Double digit scoring from three different Eagles allowed WU to pull away down the stretch. Harris tallied 10 with five rebounds despite the loss.
