BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team came back from down a pair of runs to defeat the Wofford College Terriers on Wednesday evening 7-6 on a two run walk off double. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied seven runs on 10 hits in the ballgame.
GWU took an early 1-0 lead as Wofford walked in a run in the opening frame. The Terriers put up a trio in the third inning taking their first lead of the game 3-1.
Adrienne Visintine answered with a two-run bomb to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning. Ligotti followed that up with a solo shot of her own in the fourth inning. Wofford retook the lead in the fifth with a fielder's choice and a sac fly. Gardner-Webb was able to get one back in the sixth on a wild pitch that allowed pinch runner
Lilly Deaton to make it home. With the Terriers leading 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh, this set the stage for Ligotti to hit a long double that brought home
Trina Van Dyke and
Meredith Wayland to win it 7-6 for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Friday, March 29 to host a doubleheader with Charleston Southern University starting at 3:00 p.m. The games are the first two of a three game weekend series.
