Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Closes Regular-Season with 5-2 Loss to Davidson

Junior Emilia Roslund wins singles match for second-consecutive day for Runnin' Bulldogs!

Box Score Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team closed out its spring regular-season at the Webb Tennis Center Monday afternoon (4/15), as the Runnin' Bulldogs lost a hard-fought non-conference match, 5-2, against visiting Davidson College.

Gardner-Webb finishes 6-10 overall (3-2 in Big South).

Davidson, which competes in the Atlantic Ten Conference, improves to 12-8.

Starting the afternoon in the double's competition, Gardner-Webb won the first match on Court No.3 as the Dawgs duo of graduate senior Courtney Fyvie (Durbam, South Africa) and freshman Alizée Poulin (Beauceville, Quebec, Canada) beat Charlotte Calderwood and Olivia Hooper, 6-1.

Davidson bounced back on Court No.1. as the Runnin' Bulldogs No.1 tandem of junior Emilia Roslund (Lund, Sweden) and sophomore Emma Shasteen (Floda, Sweeden) fell (4-6) to the Wildcat's top doubles pairing of Dani Porges and Kavya Patel.

The doubles deciding point was decided on Court No. 2 when the Dawgs No.2 doubles team of senior Katie Watts (Haslet, Texas) and freshman Milica Prokic (Belgrade, Serbia) lost (5-7) to Emma Heiderscheit and Savanna Kollock.

Gardner-Webb trailed 1-0 heading into the singles competition where the hosts battled in a match that took 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete.

Davidson took the first two singles matches on courts three and four. The Runnin' Bulldogs rallied to win the next two matches on courts two and six before the Wildcats prevailed on courts five and one to prevail in the match.

Roslund prevailed on Court No. 2 for the second-consecutive day for the Dawgs with a victory over Kavya Patel (7-5, 6-3) while Prokic took a three-set win over Ines Roti on Court. No.6.

Gardner-Webb battled but lost two singles matches in three sets as Fyvie (6-1, 4-6, 2-6) lost at singles No.5. to Bryson Langford.

Shasteen also dropped a tough three-set match for the Runnin' Bulldogs with (6-3, 5-7, 5-7) setback to Porges at No,1 singles.

Poulin lost (3-6, 2-6) to Heiderscheit on Court No.3. while Watts fell at No.4 singles (5-7, 4-6) to Kollock.  

"Today's match was almost identical to yesterday's (Sunday) against Charleston Southern," said Gardner-Webb women's tennis coach Jim Corn. "It was a good college tennis match that lasted three hours and 15 minutes and we really battled. If three or four points had gone our way, we would have won 4-3. My girls gave a great effort, now it's on to the conference tournament."
 
Up Nex t— The Runnin' Bulldogs will compete in the Big South Conference Tennis Tournament on Friday (4/19) at the Marion Diehl Tennis Center in Charlotte, N.C.

No.3-seed Gardner-Webb will take on three-time defending champion and No.2-seed Charleston Southern at 2PM.

The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic big to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
