Gardner-Webb Track & Field Collects Two Wins at Gamecock Invitational

Sophomore Quentin Peterson and senior Karmen Taylor turn in gold-medal winning performances for the Runnin' Bulldogs

COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 6, 2024) – The Gardner-Webb Track & Field squad was back at it again on Saturday, competing at the Gamecock Invitational. The 16-team event was held at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track on the campus of host South Carolina University.

The Runnin' Bulldogs came away with two event wins on Saturday, as well as 16 performers turning in Top 5 overall finishes.

Among the highlights of the men's competition for Gardner-Webb was the performance of sophomore Quentin Peterson, who turned in a gold-medal-winning performance for the Dawgs in the Men's Shot Put.

Peterson's first place-winning toss of 17.24m (56-06.75) broke his school record once again.

Junior Jacoby Johnson also turned in a Top 5 performance in the Men's Shot Put with a toss of 15.05m (49-04.50) which was good for fourth place.

Peterson, who had a gold medal and school-record setting performance in the Men's Discuss Throw at the Kennesaw State Invitational last week, finished second on Saturday to South Carolina's Dylan Targgart (54.95m/ 180-03) with a toss of 53.46 (175-05).

Rounding out the Top 5 field performers for the Runnin' Bulldogs on Saturday was freshman Jonathan Timpson who turned in a fourth-place finish (1.91m/6-03.25) in the Men's High Jump.

In the men's track events, junior Ryan Morita set a school record in the Men's 800 meter with a time of 1:56.26.

Sophomore TJ Peebles finished sixth for Gardner-Webb in the Men's 110m Hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.79.

In the women's field events, senior Karmen Taylor turned in a gold-medal winning performance in the Women's Hammer Throw with a personal-best (51.50m/168-11) for the Dawgs.

Sophomore Madison Boyd finished second in the Hammer Throw behind Taylor with her personal-best toss off 49.46m (162-03) while junior Selah Holcombe also turned a personal-best to finish in fifth place with a 42.68 (140-00).

Taylor took second place in the Women's Discus Throw with a school-record 42.63m (139-10).

Junior Adrionna Coleman (41.81m/137-02) placed third in the Women's Discus Throw for the Runnin' Bulldogs while freshman Zoie Johnson finished fourth with a 40.71 (133-06).

Freshman Teandra Clemons turned in two Top 5 performances for the Dawgs as she placed third (5.40m/17-08.75) in the Women's Long Jump and finished fifth (1.50m/4-11-00) in the Women's High Jump.

In the Women's Javelin Throw, freshman Isa vanSintemaartensdijk (36.26m/118-11) turned a fourth-place performance for Gardner-Webb while sophomore Gabby Borum (11.44m/37-06.50) finished fifth in the Women's Shot Put.

In the women's track events, sophomore Jessica Perriello placed third in the Women's 800 Meter for the Dawgs with a school-record 2:17.62.
