CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After a dazzling 4-nil win over South Carolina State last Thursday night, the Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team sees two players chosen for Big South weekly awards, with freshman defender
Anya Tribune picking up freshman of the week honors, while junior defender
Camila Lezcano was named defensive player of the week.
It was a complete team effort on Thursday night, with the Runnin' Bulldogs using two goals each side of halftime to grab the victory. Tribune played her part early and late, heading GWU into the lead inside just five minutes of play for her third goal of the season, before adding an assist on the Runnin' Bulldogs fourth and final goal.
As for Lezcano, the junior scored a brace in the space of just 15 minutes. After she doubled the Runnin' Bulldogs lead in the 39th minute off a corner kick, Lezcano added a second goal in the 54th minute, her first two goals of the season to this point. The Miami, Fla. native was previously named an All-Conference selection in 2023.
After last Thursday night's win, the Runnin' Bulldogs look ahead to Big South Conference play, hosting Radford on Wednesday, September 25th.
