Longwood would dominate the majority of the ball however, and in the second half made the most of an 11-3 advantage in shots. The Lancers climbed back in the game in the 52nd minute, able to scramble a loose free kick over the line.
In the 67th minute, Longwood would grab the lead on a header out in front. Then in the 86th, the home side would scramble home one last opportunity that bounced off the post and around the goal Iine, sealing the result as Gardner-Webb fell 3-1.
