Box Score CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team fell 4-0 at Western Carolina on Thursday, with the home-standing Catamounts netting two goals each side of halftime.
Â
Western Carolina would be the aggressors early and often in the contest, forcing sophomore goalkeeper
Stephanie Liu into a series of early saves in a game where the Hualien, Taiwan native recorded 13 in total. Despite the strong goalkeeping performance, the Catamounts found the back of the net twice inside the 12th minute, seeing the Runnin' Bulldogs behind 2-0, a lead that held through to halftime.
GWU was able to keep WCU at bay for much of the early second half, with Liu again making several key saves in quick order as the Runnin' Bulldogs attempted to hit the home side on the counter. That plan worked nearly to perfection in the 57th minute, where the Runnin' Bulldogs forced two saves, with attempts by senior midfielder
Carina Leal and senior forwardÂ
Livi Tanzer being turned away.
However, to end the contest, the Catamounts were able to find two quick goals. The home side struck in the 67th and 88th minutes to wrap the game up, as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell 4-0.
