Men's Tennis Dominates at North Florida For First Win of The Season

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - The Gardner-Webb University men's tennis team (1-1) dominated across the board on Monday afternoon, defeating North Florida on the road 6-1 for the Runnin' Bulldogs first win of the spring 2025 season
The Runnin' Bulldogs took each of the first five singles matches, then scored wins on No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles to finish off a well earned, complete team victory.
Graduate Eduardo Dias was posted another impressive individual result for the 'Dawgs at No. 1 singles, coming from behind after dropping the first set to defeat Andreas Scott of North Florida, winning by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-1
Numa Lemieux-Monette kept GWU on a roll at No. 2 singles, scoring a 6-2, 6-4 sweep over UNF's Bruno Vietri. Kim Niethammer was impressive on No. 3 singles as well, posting a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory over Youssef Labbene.
Freshman Alexandre Bergeron continued a fine start to his collegiate career on No. 4 singles, picking up his second win in as many days with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over the Osprey's Gianluca Filoramo. Gardner-Webb then scored a fifth singles win in as many tries, with Boyd Schreiber defeating Joao Portugal by a final tally of 6-3, 6-4.
On to doubles, where the Runnin' Bulldogs clinched the all important point with two wins from three. The duo of Numa Lemieux-Monette and Kaua Cresoni made quick work on No. 2 doubles with a 6-0 sweep over Chase Healey and Andreas Scott before Alex Lepine and Kim Niethammer wrapped things up with a 6-2 victory over Lorenzo Messina and Youssef Labbene
"I have tons of respect for UNF and their coaches and players. This win is awesome and I couldn't be more proud of our team. To come to Florida and play the level of tennis we did is so cool" said head coach Mike Griffith after the match.
Gardner-Webb will return to the court on Friday, January 31st, when the Runnin' Bulldogs visit on the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m.
