SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb cross country team returned to action on Saturday morning, taking part in the annual Upstate Invite, hosted by USC Upstate

The Gardner-Webb men had just two participants in the 8k race, but with both freshman Brendan Athy and junior Austin DeGeorge setting new personal best times, with Athy clocking in at 26:43 and DeGeorge at 29:07. The Gardner-Webb women would really shine in the 5k race, with two personal bests and two season best times. Sophomore Megan Devanny led the way for GWU with a PR time of 18:16, alongside freshman Maggie Dirks who also set a PR in 18:54. For season best times, freshman Alexis Plaster crossed the line in 19:40 and sophomore Brooke Hope did so in 20:04
