BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team (9-15, 1-7 Big South) suffered a 3-0 defeat to visiting High Point (10-8, 7-1 Big South) on Friday night in Big South action
High Point jumped out to big leads in all three sets, winning 25-10 in the first, 25-15 in the second, and 25-16 in the third. Gardner-Webb saw its best efforts in the third set, jumping out to a decent-sized early lead
In the second set, redshirt junior
Serena Kohler emerged with an exciting sequence for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The North Port, Fla. native crushed three kills in a six-point sequence for the Dawgs, and later added back-to-back kills, eventually finishing the game a team-high nine in the column.
In the third set, Gardner-Webb jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. Kohler added another one of her nine kills early on, while sophomore outside hitter
Isabel Sandstrum opened the set with a service ace. Sophomore outside hitter
Caroline Franklin had a solid game, including a couple of kills in the third set as well. Redshirt freshman right side
Alexis Maesch was also among the substitutes to stand out, notching he final two points of the game for GWU
One area the Runnin' Bulldogs excelled on Friday night was in service aces, with multiple players recording at least one in the box score, including Sandstrum and junior middle
