Women's Soccer Hosts Charleston Southern on Saturday For Senior Day

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team (2-7-2, 1-1-1 Big South) is back home at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Saturday afternoon, hosting Charleston Southern (4-4-4, 2-1-1 Big South) for Senior Day

SERIES NOTES
  • Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series 8-7-2, with the sides having met once a year since 2008 and all in the Big South Conference era
  • GWU won each of the first two meetings in 2008 and 2009, before CSU won a series-best four in a row between 2010 and 2013
  • Dating back to 2016, the Runnin' Bulldogs have lost just twice in the last nine games against Charleston Southern, recording five wins, two draws in that stretch

GARDNER-WEBB NOTES
  • The Runnin' Bulldogs have been off for the last 10 days, following a 0-0 draw at home against Winthrop
  • Gardner-Webb has four points through its first three league games, following the aforementioned draw against Winthrop and a 1-0 win over Presbyterian on September 24th
  • Graduate forward Annie Slovak scored a 79th minute winner against Presbyterian for her first Gardner-Webb goal, and is expected to make her 71st collegiate appearance between GWU and Liberty on Saturday afternoon
  • In addition to Slovak who has played 30 minutes off the bench in every appearance this season, GWU is expected to feature in rotation, junior midfielder Lily Stegall who has played 388 minutes and made two starts, and senior midfielder Kaitlyn Huff who has 395 minutes played and four starts
  • GWU is led by redshirt junior midfielder Peyton Bryant, who holds a team-high 933 minutes for outfield players this season and is the only GWU outfield player above the 900 mark
  • Senior goalkeeper Savannah Dixon has started every game in goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs, totaling 960 minutes, 60 saves, and back-to-back shutouts
  • On the attack, Gardner-Webb is led by junior forward Olivia Tribolet who has three goals, one assist and seven points through eight games played
  • Freshman forward Ila Allred is the other multi-goal scorer for GWU, with two goals and four points in eleven games
  • Others to make significant contributions in the team include freshman defender Noor Reslan and freshman midfielder Katie Stefanovski who have each started 10-of-11 games, and freshman midfielder Bailey Pottratz who has featured in all 11 games, making seven starts, including the last five games in a row
  • On Senior Day, senior defender Camila Lezcano could start her 56th consecutive game for Gardner-Webb, a streak that began at Winthrop in early October of 2022 and has extended in full across the 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons
  • Joining Lezcano, Allred, Bryant and Dixon, sophomore defender Tanner Michael has started in all 11 games this season, playing 899 minutes and recording an assist against SC State
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN NOTES
  • The Buccaneers enter with a 4-4-4 record, but have picked up four wins and two draw across the last seven games, losing just once dating back to early September
  • CSU opened Big South play with back to back shutout wins, beating UNC Asheville and Winthrop each 1-0
  • After a 1-1 draw at High Point on October 4th, CSU jumped back into non-conference action for a 3-1 win over SC State on October 8th
  • Diving into statistics, Charleston Southern is the third-most penalized team in the Big South with 102 fouls committed, an average of 8.5 per match and nine yellow cards
  • On the attack, the Buccaneers rank eighth in the Big South with 10.83 shots per game and sixth with 14 goals scored
  • Defensively, CSU has concerned the fourth most goals in the league with 17 but have given up just three in its four Big South games played
  • After a 0-0 draw at Davidson in late August, Charleston Southern has found the back of the net at least once in each of its last eight games
