Runnin' Bulldogs Post Strong Individual Results at Opening Day of Queens Fall Frenzy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb swimming team returned to the pool on Friday afternoon in Charlotte, posting a series of strong individual results on day one of the Queens Fall Frenzy

The brightest star of the day for Gardner-Webb would be freshman Victor Cury. In the morning session, Cury set a new Gardner-Webb record with a time of 4:25.81 in the 500 meter freestyle prelims, He'd one-up himself later on, resetting the record with a time of 4:27.24 in the finals on his way to a second place finish.

There were several new personal records set on Friday, including one fom sophomore Dakota Townley. In the women's 200 yard IM finals, Townley touched the wall with a new personal best of 2:07.08. She was also part of the GWU team in the women's 400 yard medley relay later in the day, posting a split of 29.92 seconds for a quartet that finished in 3:47.95

Freshman Jenna Valentine added to the individual records in the women's 50 yard freestyle. Valentine recorded a time of 23.75 seconds in the event finals. She also competed in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay as part of a group of Runnin' Bulldogs who finished in 1:34.23 and the women's 400 yard relay as part of a group who completed the race in 3:47.95

Over in the men's 50 yard freestyle, Porter Lane posted a personal best time, as Lane completed the prelim race in 21.30 seconds. Lane also competed in the men's 400 yard relay finals, part of a team who finished in 3:22.65, and was the first in the pool for the GWU 200 yard freestyle relay team, touching the wall in 21.28 seconds as the team finished in 1:24.87

Two more individual records came in that 50 yard freestyle race for GWU, from sophomore Joshua Johnson and freshman Jonathan Fraccola. Johnson recorded a time of 21.80 seconds, and Fraccola finished the race in 21.97 seconds

Another notable run came fom senior Justin Bender, who competed in the finals of the men's 200 yard IM. Bender improved upon his 1:49.46 prelims time to post a finals time of 1:48.46, good enough to finish in sixth place overall

With a prelim time of 23.10 seconds, junior Slawka Nudubuisi qualified for the championship race of the women's 50 yard freestyle. The Columbia, S.C. native also improved from prelims to finals, finishing eighth with a time of 23.03 seconds. Nudubuisi also led a GWU team in the women's 400 yard medley relay, posting a split of 27.60 seconds for a unit that finished in 3:47.95
