Women's Basketball Falls at ETSU on Thursday Night

JOHNSON CITY, TENN - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team (3-10) fell in one of its final non-conference games of the season on Thursday night, 59-37 in a low scoring game at ETSU (5-8)

The Runnin' Bulldogs were strong again on the defensive end, allowing just 59 points over the 40 minute contest and forcing ETSU into 16 turnovers. GWU meanwhile scored just 37 points, shooting 26.9% for the game, with a high mark of 41% in the fourth, scoring 14 points in the frame

Freshman guard Makayla Legette and junior guard Anaya Harris started the scoring for the Dawgs who took a 5-0 lead within the first 1:30 of game time. Gardner-Webb would go on a lengthy scoring drought into the second quarter, until redshirt senior guard Jaelyn Acker cashed in a three near the end of the half. At halftime, GWU trailed 26-17

For the night, the Runnin Bulldogs were led by junior guard Amina Gray who poured in 17 points, hit 6-of-15 from the floor and three three-pointers. No bigger stretch for Gray came than in the third quarter, when she cashed in 12 of her 17 points, and of the 14 in the quarter for Gardner-Webb.

Gray continued her scoring spurt for GWU into the fourth, knocking down the the team's first FG of the frame from deep to make the score 45-34, ETSU

Redshirt sophomore forward Kayla Martin scored the final points of the game for the Runnin' Bulldogs, once from the floor on a short jumper and once from the free throw line in the final 6:40 but GWU was unable to mount any late comeback. ETSU would hold on to down the Dawgs, 59-37 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Five different Gardner-Webb players scored in the game, including Gray with a game-high 17. The Runnin' Bulldogs led in a couple statistical catagories, most notably with an 11-3 final advantage in steals and four blocked shots to just one for ETSU
