Second Half Surge From Wofford Sees Runnin' Bulldogs Fall 58-41 on Thursday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team (2-8, 0-0 Big South) trailed early and rallied just after halftime, before a second half surge saw Wofford (3-5, 0-0 SoCon) pull away 58-41

The visiting Terriers flew out of the gate on Thursday night, with Gardner-Webb finding itself down 10-0 less than three minutes into the contest. The Runnin' Bulldogs put together some solid offense down the stretch of the first quater, then held Wofford to just 4-of-11 in the second to make what was a double digit deficit, just six at halftime.

Redshirt sophomore guard Kayla Martin finished off a beautiful pass from senior guard Nyla Walker to beat the halftime buzzer in a 26-20 game. From down by as many as 11 points with 1:47 remaining in the second quarter, the Runnin' Bulldogs scored the final five points of the half to get back into the contest

Gardner-Webb came out of the second half gate firing, eventually cutting the Wofford lead to as few as one with 5:54 left in the third quarter. In addition to Walker, junior guard Amina Gray would get going with two made three pointers in the frame. The Terriers answered with a closing 10-3 run to lead 40-32 through three, and extended the run to 17-5 early in the fourth.

With 7:37 remaining in the contest, Wofford took an 11 point lead, and Gardner-Webb would get no closer as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell 58-41. GWU would score its last seven points, and seven of its nine fourth quarter points from the free throw line.

Gardner-Webb forced Wofford into 16 turnovers, and finished with a 22-12 advantage from points in the paint. GWU also finished with an 11-7 edge on the offensive glass

LEADERS
Gray continued an excellent run of form since mid-November with 10 points, junior forward Amira Ofunniyin added nine points and seven rebounds, Walker finished with eight points, two rebounds, two assists, while redshirt senior guard Jaelyn Acker added seven points and a season-best eight rebounds
