BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team (3-4, 0-0 SoCon) hosted a major conference opponent for the second time this week on Friday night, falling 23-11 to visiting Michigan State (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten)
The Runnin' Bulldogs got off to a slow start on Friday night, dropping each of its first three bouts at 197, 285 and 125. GWU got off the mat at 133 however, with nationally ranked redshirt sophomore
T.K. Davis scoring an impressive 24-6 tech fall over Andy Hampton of Michigan State. Gardner-Webb kept some momentum going with grad student
Dominic Ditullio at 141 right after, who cut the MSU overall lead to 10-8 with a 10-5 decision over Jaden Crumpler.
Tucker Cell recorded the third and final GWU victory of the night at 165, defeating DJ Shannon by 9-4 decision in a marathon bout late in the contest. The Spartans closed out Gadner-Webb 23-11, taking the final two match-ups on the evening.
