KNOXVILLE, TENN. - The Gardner-Webb University men's and women's swimming teams competed in day two of the ASUN Championship meet on Thursday, with the Runnin' Bulldogs reaching the podium in three relay races
The first podium of the day came for Gardner-Webb in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay. For the 'Dawgs, sophomore
Jacob Jensen, freshman
Manuel Brander, senior
Zuri Ramsey and senior
John David Cass combined for a time of 1:19.99, good enough for third place.
Gardner-Webb also finished high on the leaderboard in the men's 400 yard medley relay. Brander and Cass, alongside junior
Justin Bender and freshman
Agustin Orechia posted a time of 3:13.10 to take third place, and also set a new GWU record in the process.
The Runnin' Bulldogs also landed on the podium in the women's 400 yard medley relay. The quartet of freshman
Dakota Townley, sophomore
Slawka Ndubuisi, junior
Hannah Routh and senior
Emma Maust posted an overall time of 3:44.86 to come in third place.
In addition to the podium finishes, Gardner-Webb also had a series of athletes set personal-best times on day two. In the women's 100 yard butterfly, Routh managed to touch the wall in 55.53 seconds, while Orechia set a PR in the men's 100 yard butterfly with a time of 48.79 seconds.
In the men's 50 yard race, Jensen touched the wall in 20 seconds even, completing a successful day with the first of several Gardner-Webb personal best times.
The men's 400 yard IM proved to be one of the most successful events of the day for Gardner-Webb with two strong finishes and two personal records. Sophomore
Luke Weber posted a fourth place run in the finals with a time of 3:56.65, while freshman
Jo Jo Frye came in eighth with a time of 4:01.18 in the prelims.
Gardner-Webb also proved successful in both the men's and women's sides of the 200 yard freestyle race. In the men's race, senior
Noah Seip touched the wall for a PR with a time of 1:45.54, while the previously mentioned Brandner also set a new personal best time, finishing his race in 1:38.06. Over on the women's side, Maust touched the wall in 1:50.90, also a new personal record time.
