KNOXVILLE, TENN. - The Gardner-Webb University men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up the 2025 ASUN Championship meet on Saturday at the University of Tennessee, with four Runnin' Bulldogs landing on the podium in the final events of the week
For Gardner-Webb,
Luke Weber led the way on Saturday, winning the ASUN title in the men's1650 yard freestyle race. Weber posted a blistering time of 15:37.05 in the finals to take first place and win another individual championship for Gardner-Webb. In the same event for GWU was Santiago Alacantara, who touched the wall in 15:44.42 for third place, giving Gardner-Webb two of the events three medal wins.
Also on the podium for the Runnin' Bulldogs was
Agustin Orechia in the men's 200 yard backstroke and
Justin Bender in the men's 200 yard breaststroke. Bender completes an excellent week at conference championships, just one nigh after setting a new ASUN record in the 100 yard breaststroke. Sophomore
Dan Bennett and senior
Logan Butner also competed in the A-final of the 200 yard breaststroke, with the pair placing sixth and seventh respectively.
Freshman
Dakota Townley also joins the list of Gardner-Webb athletes with strong week-long performances. Townley managed a fifth place run in the women's 200 yard breaststroke final, clocking in with a time of 2:16.15
Senior
Emma Maust was among the standouts on Saturday for the Runnin' Bulldogs as well. Maust placed sixth in the women's 1650 yard freestyle race, touching the wall with a time of 17:10.79
