Runnin' Bulldogs Pull Off 6-1 Win Over Wingate

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (10-1) continued its winning ways, picking up a come-from-behind victory over visiting Wingate on Sunday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex. Wingate took the doubles point before the Runnin' Bulldogs swept all six singles competition for the 6-1 win.

Despite dropping the doubles point, graduate Eduardo Dias and freshman Boyd Schreiber took No.1 after a 6-4 defeat of Luka Brown and Carlo Rosellini.

Singles action was a different story for Gardner-Webb as all six matches were decided in straight sets as Alexandre Bergeron evened the overall score at 1-1 with a win at No. 4 singles before Dias put the Runnin' Bulldogs ahead for good with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1.

Alex Lepine put the 'Dawgs on the verge of a win after taking down Rodrigo De La Torre at No. 5 (6-4, 6-2). Numa Lemieux-Monette clinched the match for Gardner-Webb with a triumph at No. 3 singles (6-4, 7-5). Schreiber and Kim Niethammer closed out the match and 6-1 win with victories at No. 6 and 2 respectively.

"It was great to change the momentum with our singles play and give credit to Wingate for winnining the doubles point," said head coach Mike Griffith. "Once we got into singles, we did not let up."

Gardner-Webb will return to the courts on Tuesday, February 25, taking on No.1 natioanlly-ranked Wake Forest in Winston Salem, N.C. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
