GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season after taking down UNC Greensboro 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Spartans struck first on the scoreboard with a win at No. 2 singles, but
Milica Prokic evened the match at 1-1 for Gardner-Webb after taking down Raegan Mitchell in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) in No. 3 singles.
Gardner-Webb then took the overall lead with a win at No. 5 singles as
Arili Boshoff defeated Sydney Bly 7-5, 6-3.
Emilia Roslund pushed the lead to 3-1 in favor of the 'Dawgs with a solid 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Olivia Gallagher.
Natalie Crawford clinched the match for GWU with a 7-5, 7-5 straight set win at No. 4 singles over Lauren Thompson. UNCG picked up a point in No. 6 singles.
Doubles action saw Boshoff and Roslund win No. 1, 6-3, while
Greta Murzsa and Alizee Poulin earned the coveted doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action on Wednesday, February 6, traveling to nearby Gaffney, S.C. to face the Saints of Limestone University. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
