| By:
MACON, Ga. – The Gardner-Webb (6-1) men's tennis team ran its win streak to six matches with a convincing 6-1 victory over Mercer (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

The Runnin' Bulldogs won two out three matches in doubles action to earn the first point before taking 5-of-6 in singles matches.

After dropping No. 2 doubles, GWU came back with wins at No. 3 as Alexandre Bergeron and Alex Lepine took down Tom Hagelauer and Esteban Gasser 6-4, leaving the crucial doubles points in the hands of the No. 1 flight.

Eduardo Dias and Boyd Schreiber continued their impressive work, dismissing #67 Nemanja Stefanovic and Marceau Fouilhoux by the final of 6-4 to put Gardner-Webb ahead 1-0 in the match.

Lepine doubled the 'Dawgs lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles before Bergeron put GWU on the cusp of a win with a brilliant performance at No. 4, taking down Fouilhoux 6-2, 6-1. With only one point to earn for the win, Kim Niethammer left no doubts, clinching the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Prince Gandonou.

Mercer took No. 1 singles, but the Runnin' Bulldogs closed out the match with wins at No. 2 and 6 singles as Numa Lemieux-Monette and Schreiber each earned three-set victories.

"Going into this match we expected a battle, and we met the challenge," said head coach Mike Griffith. "We have gone 3-0 so far versus Southern Conference teams and we are fired up to face Wofford on Tuesday."

The Runnin' Bulldogs visit Wofford on Tuesday, February 11 with a start time of 2 p.m.
