SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb University softball team (15-12) battled back from a game one defeat and an early deficit in a wild game two, earning a doubleheader split on the road at Wofford (15-7) on Tuesday afternoon
Game One - Wofford 6, Gardner-Webb 1
In the opening game of a two-game set, Gardner-Webb would fall behind early and was unable to mount a comeback in a 6-1 defeat
The Terriers struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning, then tagged on two more in the third and one in the fourth to jump in front 6-0.
Gardner-Webb did get on the board in the top of the seventh, with graduate student
Araceli Pesqueira hitting her sixth home run of the season to make the score 6-1, Wofford.
For the contest, Gardner-Webb scored its one run on six hits, while leaving five on base and committing a pair of errors in the field.
Game Two - Gardner-Webb 8, Wofford 6 // 8 innings
The late game became one of the wildest of the season for Gardner-Webb, as the 'Dawgs recovered from a 4-0 deficit after three innings, eventually scoring three in the eighth for an 8-6, extra innings victory.
Trailing 4-0, the Runnin' Bulldogs got back in the game with a three run top of the fifth. Sophomore
Trina Van Dyke produced the big hit, pushing across junior
Maura Pendleton to make it a one-run game. This followed an error by Wofford at first, allowing the first two runs to score.
Down a run, Gardner-Webb jumped into the lead with a big seventh inning. Van Dyke came around to score on an RBI-double from freshman

Carmen McRae found a hole in the defense for an RBI single and 5-4 lead for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
After Wofford tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, Gardner-Webb looked to junior
Taylor Dreher who delivered the big swing in the eighth. The Gilbert, S.C. native belted a three-run home run, giving the 'Dawgs an 8-5 lead. Despite one run from Wofford in the bottom half, that held up as GWU won 8-6.

Alli Stidham picked up the win for GWU in relief, going 5.1 innings while allowing only a single earned run and striking out three. The Runnin' Bulldogs managed eight runs on 11 hits in the contest, committing only one error.
