CHARLESTON, S.C. – Freshman Arili Boshoff took down Sia Cariov 7-6 (5), 7-4 in No. 4 singles while clinching an impressive 5-2 win over College of Charleston on Wednesday afternoon at the Turner Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
Gardner-Webb opened the match with a solid showing in doubles action, taking No. 2 and 3 to secure the doubles point. Natalie Crawford and Valeria Lloclla defeated Oziera Ahmad and Maja Jekauc 6-2 before Alizée Poulin and Greta Murzsa took care of Mckenzie Daniel and Isabella De Luise 7-5, pushing the Runnin' Bulldogs ahead early.
Charleston came back to knot the score at 1-1 following a win at No. 3 singles, but Emilia Roslund put the 'Dawgs back ahead with a hard-fought 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Jekauc at No. 1 singles.
Poulin dominated at No. 2, taking down Francesca Salvato in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) while leaving GWU one point away from the match win. Boshoff left no doubt with her straight set win at No. 4, helping the Runnin' Bulldogs secure the tough road win.
With the match in hand, C of C took No. 5 singles, but Lloclla finished strong for Gardner-Webb following a thrilling three-set win at No. 6 singles.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to the friendly confines of Webb Tennis Complex on Friday, March 14, playing host to Longwood. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
