BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (4-6, 1-0) women's tennis team put together a solid performance, taking down visiting Longwood (5-5, 0-1) in Big South Conference action on Friday afternoon at The Webb Tennis Complex.
Senior Emilia Roslund and freshman Arili Boshoff took down Gnilozuboav and Karina Rizvanova at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, before sophomore Milica Prokic and freshman Natalie Crawford put the 'Dawgs up 1-0 in the match with a 7-5 win at No. 2.
Singles competition belonged to the Runnin' Bulldogs as sophomore Alizée Poulin defeated Rizvanova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while doubling the GWU lead. Roslund then put Gardner-Webb one point away from a win following a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win against Eijkelenburg at No. 1. Freshman Greta Murzsa put the match away after defeating Alexandra Magia in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) at No. 6 singles.
Although the match was in hand, the two teams finished out singles action with Boshoff and Prokic picking up wins at No. 5 and 3 singles, respectively.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to the courts on Monday, March 17, hosting the Blue Hose of Presbyterian at 2:30 p.m.
