BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (5-6, 2-0) women's tennis team cruised to its third consecutive victory after defeating Presbyterian (4-14, 0-1) 7-0 in Big South Conference action on Monday afternoon at The Webb Tennis Complex.
Presbyterian was able to start fast, taking No. 1 doubles, but the Runnin' Bulldogs came storming back with wins at No. 2 and 3 to earn the doubles point. The team of Alizée Poulin and Greta Murzsa took down Madison Dennett and Elle Sceney 6-4 during the No. 3 flight before Milica Prokic and Natalie Crawford secured the matches' first point with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-1) win at No. 2.
Gardner-Webb maintained the momentum heading into singles action, picking up every point for the match. Emilia Roslund made quick work of McKenzie Davis (6-2, 6-0) while Arili Boshoff picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No.5 over Sceney, putting the 'Dawgs one point away from the match.
Crawford proved to be the clincher at No. 4 singles, turning away Dennett in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Although the match was in hand, the two teams played out the remaining singles contests with Murzsa winning at No. 6, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (3-0) while Poulin tallied a three-set win at No. 2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Prokic wrapped things up with a 7-6 (4-0), 1-6, 1-0 (4-0) win at No. 3.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Wednesday, March 19, playing host to the Aggies of North Carolina A&T. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
