CLEMSON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb (11-3) men's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of No. 33 Clemson (13-1) on Sunday evening at the Duckworth Tennis Facility.
Clemson took No. 1 and 3 doubles to earn the point while going up 1-0 in the match. The Tigers were also able to take No. 2 and 4 singles, moving one point away from a win. However, graduate Eduardo Dias put together a solid performance at No. 1 singles, defeating #47 Noa Vukadin 6-4, 6-2, putting GWU on the board.
Unfortunately, the hill was too steep to climb as Clemson's No. 6 singles wrapped up the 4-1 win for the Tigers. No. 3 and 5 singles went unfinished.
"There were a lot of positives from today's match, but credit Clemson, they played well when they had to", said head coach Mike Griffith. "We will be ready for a very good Louisiana team tomorrow."
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, March 3, playing host to Louisiana. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Webb Tennis Complex.
