PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Gardner-Webb University wrestling team was well represented at the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia, with graduate student
Todd Carter competing at 141 pounds and redshirt freshman
T.K. Davis competing for the Runnin' Bulldogs at 133 pounds
Carter competed twice on Thursday afternoon and evening and for the second season in a row at the national championships, opening against Joshua Saunders of Cornell. Carter fell by an 8-2 decision, then moving on to face Jayden Scott of North Carolina. Up against Scott, Carter was defeated by a 5-4 decision. The Blackshear, Ga. native finishes the 2024-25 season for Gardner-Webb with an outstanding 20-5 record, arriving at the NCAA Championships after winning the Southern Conference title at 141 pounds. Through five seasons in the Red and Black, Carter amassed 90 career wins.
Davis also saw two bouts on Thursday afternoon and evening, making his first appearance at the NCAA Championships. The Rockmart, Ga. native opened with a defeat to Zan Fuggit of Wisconsin by 12-5 decision before following with a 5-4 decision defeat to Derrick Cardinal of South Dakota State in the consolation bracket. Davis finishes his redshirt freshman campaign with an outstanding 24-8 record for the Runnin' Bulldogs, arriving at the NCAA Championships after winning the Southern Conference title at 133 pounds and the Southern Conference Freshman of The Year award.
