BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Freshman Boyd Schreiber notched a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles, clinching a 7-0 win for Gardner-Webb (16-4) men's tennis over Davidson (9-7) on Sunday afternoon at The Webb Tennis Complex.
Davidson came out of the gate strong, taking No. 3 doubles with a 6-2 win, but Schreiber and Eduardo Dias took down Nico Pinzon and Gregorio Hidalgo 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, leaving the doubles point in the hands of the No. 2 flight. Numa Lemieux-Monette and Kaua Cressoni battled back while eventually giving GWU a 1-0 lead after a hard-fought 7-6 (1-0) win against Juan Gongora and Uddayvir Singh.
Riding the momentum, Gardner-Webb wasted no time securing the match, tallying consecutive wins at 1, 4, and 6 singles. Dias made quick work of Singh (6-1, 6-4) at No. 1 before Alexandre Bergeron defeated Sebastian Moran 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Schreiber clinched the match for the Runnin' Bulldogs who also earned wins at 2, 5, and 3 by Kim Niethammer, Alex Lepine, and Lemieux-Monette, respectively.
Gardner-Webb will return to the courts on Thursday, March 27 as it plays host to the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville at 2:30 p.m.
