CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb (6-7, 2-1) women's tennis team saw its four-match win streak come to an end after dropping a 6-1 contest at Charleston Southern (11-4, 1-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center.
Doubles started with favor for the Runnin' Bulldogs as Valeria Lloclla and Alizée Poulin took No. 3 with a 6-3 win over Emmie Moore and Brenda Yoris. However, the Buccaneers came back with wins at No. 2 and 1 to take a 1-0 match lead with the doubles point.
Singles action belonged to Charleston Southern as it was able to clinch the match following victories at 3, 1, and 4, consecutively. Poulin notched the only win for GWU in singles, a three-set thriller over Marina Skegro.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, March 26 with a trip to take on UNC Asheville. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
