ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 Big South decision at UNC Asheville on Wednesday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
The Runnin' Bulldogs started out strong, winning at No. 1 doubles as Emilia Roslund and Arili Boshoff took down Angelina Joy Hug and Elizabeth Tindera, 6-2, but UNCA took No. 2 and 3 doubles to secure the first match point.
Roslund turned around and defeated Alexis Nyborg in a hard-fought No. 1 singles match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Boshoff repeated as a winner at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Keira Stewart.
However, the Bulldogs of Asheville posted wins at No. 2, 3,4, and 6 singles to capture the match by the final of 5-2.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on Wednesday, April 2, traveling to Boone, N.C. to take on the Mountaineers of App State. That match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
