BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Numa Lemieux-Monette defeated Olle Sonesson by scores of 6-2, 7-5 (3-0) in the No. 3 singles flight while guiding the Gardner-Webb (17-4, 3-0) men's tennis team to a 5-2 win over visiting UNC Asheville (9-7, 0-1) on Thursday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Runnin' Bulldogs closed out the 2025 duals campaign with a perfect record in conference play.
The duo of Alex Lepine and Johan Van Wijk opened the doubles portion of the match with a quick 6-2 win at No. 3 over Sai Gandepalli and Griffin Lovern, but the Bulldogs came back with a victory at No. 1, making No. 2 doubles the all-important match for the game's first point.
Kaua Cressoni and Lemieux-Monette were able to earn the point for GWU following a hard-fought 7-6 (4-0) over Tarek Erlewein and Sonesson.
The Runnin' Bulldogs left no doubt entering singles play as Boyd Schreiber made quick work of Trevor Gray at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2) before Lepine put the 'Dawgs one point away from the win, taking down Cian Ingles at No. 5. That set the stage for Lemieux-Monette's straight set win at No. 3 while giving Gardner-Webb the coveted fourth point.
Alexandre Bergeron finished strong for the Runnin' Bulldogs, picking up a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 4 against Gandepalli. Asheville was able to pick up a pair of points with wins at No.1 and No. 2 singles, but it was far too late as GWU brought home the 5-2 win.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on Sunday, April 13, taking on DII Limestone at 2 p.m.
