FARMVILLE, VA - The Gardner-Webb University softball team (16-21, 1-7 Big South) traveled to Longwood in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon, falling in each game of a league doubleheader, 16-3 in game one and 5-3 in game two
Game One - Longwood 16, Gardner-Webb 3
In the early contest on Saturday, the Runnin' Bulldogs found themselves in a big hole before scoring a series of late runs to cut into the deficit.
Behind nine runs in the second inning, Longwood jumped out to a 13-0 lead on the Runnin' Bulldogs through the first three innings. Despite the score, Gardner-Webb managed two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to get on the board.

Alli Stidham walked in the first run for Gardner-Webb, before sophomore
Trina Van Dyke scored a second via a sac fly. The 'Dawgs added one more in the fifth, where senior
Jailyn Tineo connected on the first pitch for her first home run of the season.
Game Two - Longwood 5, Gardner-Webb 3
The late game proved a much closer contest, with the Runnin' Bulldogs using a big fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead in an eventual 5-3 loss,
After Longwood went up 1-0 in the bottom of the third, the same duo from game one stepped up in a bigger way, Stidham doubled home two runs to start the GWU scoring, before Van Dyke found a hole through the right side for a 3-1 'Dawgs lead.
Longwood took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth, adding one more in the fifth via a two-RBI single and a double towards the gap, bringing the game to its final score. Gardner-Webb would go down in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
Overall, Gardner-Webb scored three runs on seven hits, committing two errors in the ball game. Freshman pitcher
Anna Hornbaker took to the circle for the Runnin' Bulldogs, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs.

Gardner-Webb wraps up its stay in Farmville on Sunday afternoon, facing Longwood again at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 30th. The Runnin' Bulldogs then head to Clemson on April 1st for a 6 p.m. mid-week first pitch.
