BOONE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (6-9) women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at App State (13-5) on Wednesday afternoon at the Deer Valley Athletic Club.
The Mountaineers took all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the contest. That lead extended to 3-0 after wins at No. 1 and 2 singles. However, Natalie Crawford picked up a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Taya Powell at No. 3 singles while trimming the deficit to 3-1.
However, No. 4 singles went to App State's Olwyn Ryan-Bovey as the Mountaineers capped off the 4-1 win.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, April 5, traveling to face the Highlanders of Radford University. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
