WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team saw its remarkable season come to an end following a 4-1 defeat at the hands of No. 1 Wake Forest during the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday evening.
The Demon Deacons started strong, taking No. 2 and 3 doubles while earning the first point of the match.
In singles action, Wake extended its lead to 3-0 with a win at No. 1 and 6, but freshman Alexandre Bergeron picked up a dominant 6-2, 6-4 win over Charlie Robertson at No. 4 singles, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
However, needing only one point to clinch, the Demon Deacons secured the match with a straight set win at No. 2.
